Maude passed away peacefully Tuesday morning September 14th surrounded by people who loved her, in her Newton Grove, N.C. home. She was born February 11th, 1936 and named after her mother, she would be nicknamed Tootsie her entire life. She was born and raised in the Gregory family home, in the shadow of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she attended grammar school and was a devoted member of the congregation throughout her life. Tootsie was a humble and shy woman who often measured her self-worth by her duty to family and community. She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter Bernard Gregory and Maude Evelyn Gregory, as well as 12 siblings: Genevieve, Oliver, Hubert, Harold, Lawrence, Mary, Kay, Pat, Helen, Richard, Annie, and Jack. Having passed away many years ago, she is now reunited with her loving husband Leslie Denning. She is survived by her son Dr. Leslie Alan Denning and husband Christian Gutierrez of Miami Florida, her lone surviving sibling Joan Thornton of Newton Grove, and dozens of nieces and nephews. With her work on earth finished, Tootsie’s life will be celebrated and remembered with visitation and Rosary service the evening of Thursday September 16th at 6:00 p.m. at West and Dunn Funeral Home and funeral and burial at 11:00 a.m. Friday September 17th at Our lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton Grove.
