Ethel Jernigan Parker, age 87, of Newton Grove passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Sampson County on September 21, 1934. She was an instrumental part of the success of Parker Gas Company over the years. She was well-known in the Newton Grove area in the past for her famous “tenderloin” biscuits that she served at the Circle Stop.
Ethel was a long-time dedicated member of Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church in the Meadow community. She was well loved by family and friends. Her loving heart and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl J. Parker, her mother Mealie Jane Jernigan, her father Julius Ernie Jernigan and her brother Odis Jernigan as well as several half-brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children Donna Lee (husband Sammy) of Dunn, David Parker (wife Kim) of Newton Grove, Susan Raynor (husband Ricky) of Benson and Daren Parker (wife Michelle) of Clinton. She has ten grandchildren: Jason McConnell, Ashley Stevens, Laura Skoczylas, Erin Byrd, Nathan Raynor, Evan Raynor, Braden Raynor, Zack Parker, Casey Parker and Camden Parker. She also has four great
grandchildren.
Mrs. Parker will lay in state Thursday, October 7th from 1pm until 7pm at West & Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove, NC. Family will not be present during this time. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be a private funeral service for the family. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 8th in the church cemetery at Smyrna OFWB Church located at 11415 NC Hwy 96, Dunn, N.C. at 4pm for all family and friends that would like to attend. The Reverend Billy Nowell will officiate.
