Gwen Johnson Avery “went on ahead” Monday at Cornerstone Nursing Center after ninety-seven years of life well lived.
Married to the love of her life, William Frank Avery (1916-1979) for thirty-eight years, both were employed by Erwin Mills.
Surviving are her sons, Mike Avery and wife Beth of Morrisville, Richard Avery and wife Lori of Greenville, SC as well as daughter Diane and husband Mike Dubis of Asheboro. Grandchildren include John, Jade and wife Emily, and Dana Dubis, Madison Faith Avery, Michael Avery and Michelle Eaton, along with six great-grandchildren.
Gwen was the daughter of J. Vance and Vola Barbour Johnson of Harnett County and sister of Annie Vance and Tim Johnson, all deceased. She married Felton Cook, presently of Roseboro, in 1987.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Erwin since the early sixties, she was very active many years.
A funeral service will be held at West & Dunn Funeral Home Chapel in Erwin on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 3:00 pm. The Rev. Thomas Greene will be officiating the funeral service.
