Albert Edwards Obituary

On July 31, 2020, Albert Milton Edwards passed from this life into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior in his birthplace home surrounded by his family at the age of 88.

Albert was born on October 1, 1931, in Wayne County.  He was an avid farmer until 1978 and then began a career as a Federal Crop Insurance adjuster.  He retired in 2012 at the age of 80.  He was a lifetime member of Friendly Holiness PFWB Church where he served as superintendent, Sunday School teacher, deacon and trustee.  Additionally, Albert served as a fireman for over 20 years and was on the Board of Directors of Jordans Chapel VFD.

Albert was known for his gentle spirit, inspiring work ethic, and devotion to his family and church.  He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of all things agricultural and biblical.  He appreciated a sharp fedora and peaceful afternoon drives to Newton Grove and Goldsboro.  Throughout his lifetime, he quietly sowed the seeds of service and love in his community.  And although Albert now enjoys the eternal fruits of his righteousness, his legacy-as one who puts his hand on the plow and never looked back-challenges all who knew him to remember that planting season is never over.

He is survived by his sweetheart of 70 years, Audie Thornton Edwards, as well as his children: Rosemary Moore (Carlton), Mark Edwards (Melissa) and Yvonne Hartley (Ronnie).  He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Christopher Moore, Jennifer Sawyer, Elizabeth King, Matthew Edwards, Michael Moore, Ashley Stroud, Lauren Edwards and Jonathan Hartley.  He leaves behind nine great grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Thornton.  He was preceded in death by his parents William B. Edwards and Louida Tew as  well as an infant son, Albert Dale, and siblings: Frank, Thomas, Fred, Herbert, George and Mae.

The family would like to express our gratitude and deep appreciation to our caregivers Barbara Millard, Shirley Cooksey, Ire Darden and the entire Hospice team.

A private graveside service for the immediate family will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendly Holiness PFWB Church building fund, c/o Rosemary Moore, 1298 S. Jordans Chapel Rd., Mt. Olive or 3HC, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534 c/o April Brantham.
