William Joseph Denning

William Joseph "Joey" Denning, aged 60, was born on May 15, 1963 to Albert and Smithie Denning in Wayne County, NC.  He died on June 9, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.  After his graduation from Southern Wayne High School, Joey began his career with T A Loving at 17 years old and worked for them for 42 years as a supervisor. 

Joey loved to karaoke and sing with his father, Albert Denning.  He loved working with his hands, both at work and projects around the house and was known for cooking on the grill with his cousin, Timm and cooking enough food to feed an army.  He faithfully cut the grass at the family cemetery every week and loved his family and friends with all his heart.  Friends and family were everything to him and he was loving, kind, and generous to everyone he met.  Joey would give you the shirt off of his back and buy you another one for good measure.

Joey was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who loved him dearly.  He was a selfless man whose passing has left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones.  His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, and love will be forever engrained in all he knew, and the world is a better place for having him in it.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Denning; his sister, Kathy Denning; two children, Crystal Clark and Derrick Moore; and two grandchildren, Dakota Clark and Corey Clark.  He is also survived by his nephews; AJ Johnson and Bradley Johnson; 6 great nephews, and many cousins, including his best friend and cousin Timm Denning.

Joey's funeral and visitation with the family will take place on Monday, June 12, 2023, at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove, NC.  Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM with the funeral service following immediately after.

Donations in lieu of flowers, can be made to the St. Jude's Fndation in Joey's name.
