Thurlene Hamilton Obituary

Thurlene Stancil Hamilton (1946-2026)

Thurlene Hamilton, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the age of 79. She was born on June 19, 1946, and lived a life defined by warmth, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Hamilton; her parents, Harley Stancil & Alva Woodall Stancil; and her siblings Ruby Gregory, Erma Jean Hayes, Leon Stancil, and Glenn Stancil.

Thurlene was a lifelong resident of Erwin, NC, where she attended St. Matthews PFWB Church.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and canning vegetables. Though she was employed by Armtec in Lillington for many years, her most meaningful work was that of a caregiver. Her life was characterized by selflessness and sacrifice, which was especially evident in her steadfast commitment to caring for several of her siblings throughout lengthy terminal illnesses. She always prioritized the needs of others above her own and valued giving over receiving. She was the cornerstone of every family gathering, ensuring that everyone felt welcomed, was well-fed, and never left empty-handed.

In her last years, she cherished time spent with her daughter, Tina and granddaughter, Misty, but nothing brought her more joy than singing songs with her great-grandson Avery and sharing Fig Newtons with him. Though her health declined, her commitment to the Lord remained strong, and she continued to offer up prayers and encouragement on behalf of those she loved.

Thurlene’s legacy is carried on by her devoted daughter: Tina (“Crockett”) Norris; her cherished grandchildren: Misty (Adam) Lee and Brandy (Mark) Mountcastle; her sweet great-grandchildren: Avery, Layla, Trinity, Kenny Mack & Daniel; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home (formerly West & Dunn Funeral Home) in Erwin. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Primitive Cemetery (across from Hodges Chapel Church), Benson, NC.
