Sudie Britt Obituary

The weather-delayed interment ceremony for Mrs.Sudie Britt will take place Sunday, March 7 at 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.

Sudie T. Britt passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday February 10, 2021 at her home in Newton Grove, N.C. following several years of declining health. Sudie was born to the late Benjamin and Hattie Tart of Newton Grove on February 22, 1925. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years James (Jimmy) H. Britt, Jr., who she wed on February 8, 1947. She joyfully celebrated their anniversary date just two days prior to her death, and twelve days before her ninety-sixth birthday.

Preceded in death also was her daughter Gloria B. Dupree of Angier, N.C. Surviving is her son-in-law  Richard Dupree and son Taylor Dupree.

Also preceding in death was her sister Carrie T. Stephens and her uncle, Alex M. Tart. Following the death of her father when she was only two years old “Uncle Alex” became the family champion having promised his dying brother that he would care for and protect his wife and two young daughters. He was loved as a father forever.

Following graduation from Atlantic Christian College in 1944 Sudie began working with the federal government within the Agricultural, Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in Clinton, N.C. where she remained for 32 years until retirement. At any given time she knew every tobacco farmer in Sampson County and enjoyed many friendships at the ASCS. Shortly after retirement Sudie was invited to join the team at Sampson Tobacco Warehouse in Clinton during tobacco season where she worked for several years in administrative processing and welcomed the chance to see many of her old friends again.

Sudie is survived by her son James (Jim) A. Britt and wife Barbara of Winston-Salem, N.C., and her grand-daughter Courtney B. Tesch and husband Kirk and great-grandson Oliver Alexander Tesch of Charlotte, N.C. Also surviving is grand-daughter Lauren B. Patella and husband Michael and great-grand-daughter Evenlyn Meredith Patella of Winston-Salem, N.C. “Mimi” was loved and will be missed by all.

Sudie adored her family, loved her friends and never hesitated to express her love. Her second family was her church family at St. Paul FWB Church which she thought the world of and had missed so terribly much over the last couple of years. She lived her life as a Christian and shared her light with all she came in contact.

While she had outlived most of her peers many years ago, Sudie was still rich with friends having an abundance from many generations. The “little lady” always had time for everybody and loved to talk.

Sudie’s funeral service will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's FWB Church, Newton Grove with the Rev. Braxton Carter officiating.
