Peggy Ann (Brown) Fowler

Peggy Ann Fowler, age 95, of Erwin passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Peggy Brown Fowler of Erwin walked into Heaven, healed, on June 23 after an eight-month long illness that began with a hip fracture. She was born in Harnett County, NC on June 19, 1931, the second child of Fred and Georgia Brown.

The Brown siblings, Fredrick, Peggy, Patricia (Goody), and Bobby were very close. Peggy was the longest survivor of the group and she missed her sister and brothers mightily.

At just over 16 years old, Peggy rode in a taxi to Dillon, SC and married G.V. (Vic) Fowler on December 18, 1947. At the time of Vic’s passing they had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. There is no doubt that Vic had been sitting at the end of her bed, patiently waiting for her to get ready for him to walk her down the aisle one final time.

Peggy was a stay-at-home mom when her children were little, but rejoined the work world holding various banking roles, a stint with Harnett County and ending her career in what was her most rewarding position  - tax collector and water billing clerk for the town of Erwin.

A Methodist since getting married, Peggy still clung to her Baptist roots. Her faith was strong and her ministry of sending cards to those sick and shut-in brought her much joy even while writing with severely arthritic fingers. Her most favorite identifier was being a Democrat. She often said she was a Democrat before she was a Brown. Many lively discussions involved political issues.

Left behind to cherish many wonderful memories of Peggy are her children and grandchildren as well as her greats: daughter, Ben and Phyllis Fowler Dunn; their children, Joe, Amanda and Chellie and her beloved great-grandchildren, Lily and Cooper Dunn: son, Giles and Regina Rylee Fowler, III and son, Joshua Johnson (Bekka). She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.

Many thanks go to caregivers who became family: Christine Taylor (she could talk Peggy into anything), Ann Elliott, Mary Nancy, Rhonda and Julia. The dream team!  Also appreciation to Heartland Hospice.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later time in keeping with Peggy’s final wishes. Memorials may be made to the Erwin Methodist church.
