Nellie Rae Antwine Register, 82, of Four Oaks, passed away quietly on Sunday morning, November 14, 2021.
She is survived by her sons,James Randall "Randy" Register and Charles Wayne Register and wife, Patty; her sister, Sadie Antwine Faulkner; niece, Betty Jackson; grandchildren, Hannah Faith Register, James Tyler Register, and Hayden Luke Register. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zeamon and Esther Antwine; her husband, Elijah "EJ" Register; son; Arthur Edward and a sister, Doris Antwine Murphy.
Born to Zeamon "Dick" Antwine, Jr. and Esther Mae Koonce Antwine of Kinston, NC, Nellie attended R.H. Lewis Elementary School, Jessie W. Grainger School and later Hardbarger Business College. Nellie worked a number of jobs including H.L Greens Five and Dime Store, F.W. Woolworth's Dept Store, and Cato's Clothing Store, all while in Kinston. She later worked with the state of NC for the NC State Blind Services of Wilmington and Raleigh before working with the NC Division of Health and Human Services in Raleigh. In 1997, after 34 years of service to the state, she retired and decided to continue working 9 more years in Dunn at Heritage Bible College. Nellie was a member of and attended the Salvation Army of Kinston as well as the Salvation Army of Wilmington and was a member of Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Baptist Church of Benson. She was awarded "Woman of the Year" by the Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army in Wilmington and in 1997, awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award, the highest recognition conferred to an individual for exemplary service to the state of North Carolina.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 17 at 2:00PM at Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow at Hodges Chapel PFWB Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00PM-8:00PM at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Benson.
