Mrs. Nancy Cooper, 80 of Erwin, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family. Mrs. Cooper's funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Erwin. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas Greene. A visitation will be held at West and Dunn Funeral Home of Erwin on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 6-8 pm. Interment will follow the funeral service in Erwin Memorial Park of Erwin, NC.
Nancy is survived by her husband, James D. Cooper, children, Cindy Cooper Haney and friend Scott McKay of Erwin, Jamie Cooper and wife Susan of Richmond Va, grandchildren, Brian Haney and wife Lauren, Kyle Haney and wife Emma, Derek Cooper, Lynsey Cooper and Joshua Latham, Sean Cooper, Ian Cooper, Grace Cooper, Jessica Johnson and Justin Johnson. Nancy is also survived by her great grandchildren, Oliver Haney and Marley Cooper Latham along with many close cousins.
Nancy is preceded in death by parents, Floyd and Lucy Glover and son-in-law, Jim Haney.
Nancy’s parents instilled in her the values of kindness and love of family, which she carried with her throughout her life. Though she was an only child, Nancy had many cousins and extended family, with whom she was close.
Nancy worked as an LPN at Good Hope Hospital, and later at Harnett County Schools where she was a teacher’s assistant and a nurse. She was a lifelong member of Erwin First Baptist Church where she was head of the visitation committee and led the fundraising effort within the church to support the Kennedy’s Children’s Home in Kinston after her father’s death. She was also a Girl Scout leader.
Nancy loved her family more than anything. While she made her home in Erwin, her favorite place in the world was Holden Beach, North Carolina, where she had a cottage.
Nancy was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, an extraordinary grandmother, and a beloved great-grandmother.
