Michael Wayne Thornton, 48, of Goldsboro, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday morning, February 4.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa, and son, Kaden, both of the home; his parents, Don and Kay Thornton; his sister, Dena Mitchell (William); his niece, Hannah Mitchell Scott (Chad); three great nephews, Bennett, Chance and Walker; a great niece, Presley; father-in-law, Wayne Sutton; brother-in-law, Jeff Sutton; and his special fur babies, Macy and Max.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Rachael Sutton; his maternal grandparents, John Paul and Mary Lois Giddens and his paternal grandparents, Carlton and Inez Thornton.
Michael worked for Wayne County Public Schools at Rosewood Middle School as an Instructional Assistant for three years. Prior to that, he worked with Wayne Opportunities for several years. He graduated from Johnston Community College with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, but it was working with the disabled that was truly his special gift.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8 from 4:00-5:30 PM at Rosewood First Baptist Church, 562 NC 581 South, Goldsboro, NC. Funeral service will be following at 5:30. Burial will take place on Friday at 10:00 AM at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro.
