Linda Gayle (Daughtry) Bizzell

Linda Gayle Daughtry Bizzell, 74, passed away on February 12, 2022, due to dementia/Alzheimer’s and COVID 19.  She was predeceased by her parents, Willie and Ruth Daughtry of Newton Grove, NC. 

She was a graduate of Hobbton High School, class of 1965.  She was the winner of the Miss Hobbton pageant of 1965.  She graduated from East Carolina University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and taught elementary school in Hampton, VA, and Smithfield, NC for ten years.  She became a stay-at-home mom for the rest of her life in 1979 with the birth of her second son. Gayle was an active member of First Baptist Church of Smithfield, NC where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years and a deacon for over 20 years.  She has been a member of the church for over 40 years.  

She is survived by her husband, Alton Bizzell, to whom she married in June 1969 (52 years).  She is survived by two sons: Clifford Langdon Bizzell (Julie) of Matthews, NC,  and Dr. Cary Frederick Bizzell (Jackie) of Clayton, NC; five grandchildren: Natalie Bizzell, Jackson Bizzell, Bridgette Bizzell, Zachary Bizzell, and Genevieve Bizzell; two brothers Travis Daughtry of Newton Grove, NC and Doyle Daughtry of Monterey, CA.

Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church in Smithfield, NC on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 2:00 PM.  Visitation will be prior to the service at the church from 1:00-2:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Warren-Oak Grove Church Cemetery in Newton Grove, NC.  
 

 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 202 S. Fourth St., Smithfield, NC 27577, or to Oak Grove FWB Church, 3311 Newton Grove Hwy., Newton Grove, NC 28366.  Facial masks and social distancing are required during all services.
