Lawrence Wellon Campbell, 86, of Benson, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, January 20.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 23 at 2:00pm at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Benson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Ida Campbell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sylvia; three sons; Tony Campbell (Annette) of Topsail Beach, Rick Jones (Debi) of McGhee’s Crossroads, and Scott Jones (Casey) of McGhee’s Crossroads; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brother; Donald Campbell (Janice) of Benson, sister; Diane Parrish (Travis) of Benson.
Early in his life, Lawrence worked in the farming business until his family opened Campbell’s General Store. Here, he worked along side his father selling groceries and gas until Lawrence bought it for himself and ran it for twenty-nine years. After closing the store, Lawrence managed Lane’s Lube Express at Hwy 40/42. An active member of over twenty-five years at Westfield Baptist Church in Dunn, Lawrence served as a Deacon, Choir member, Kitchen Committee, and anywhere else he was needed. Later, Lawrence and Sylvia became members of Crossroads Church in Benson.
