Larry "Doug" Blackman, age 79, of Rosin Hill Road, Newton Grove passed away at his residence on March 31, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 19th 1943 he was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Blackman, mother, Almeta Blackman, sisters Julia Thornton, Sarah Raynor, and Pearlie Dunn and brothers Sandy, Donald, Robert Blackman.
Born and raised in Sampson county he spent much of his life farming with his family and owned and operated a local trucking businesses. Doug is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris (Jernigan) Blackman, brother Charlie Blackman and wife Nancy, and sister Janice Keen and husband Sherrol. Doug has two children, Tracy Jordan and Michael Blackman and wife Julie; who gave him 6 grandchildren; Hannah, Michaela, Allie, Johnna, Jackson, and Jenna. He has four great grandchildren; Trooper, Emmylou, Samuel, and Haley.
The family would like to express their gratitude to 3HC, especially Doug’s wonderful nurse, Kristy Jackson. Services will be held at Maple Grove United Methodist Church in Dunn, NC with visitation at 2:00pm and the funeral to follow at 3:00 pm. The burial will be directly after the funeral at the Blackman Family Cemetery on Hwy 55.
