Junius Lafon Horne, age 95 of Dunn, entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, December 21, 2024 with family by his side. He was born on September 3, 1929 in Harnett County, Erwin, NC. J.L. was a man of character, a hard-working individual who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. The love of his family could always be heard in conversation and seen in many kind acts of love. Mr. Horne served as an usher and deacon at Prospect Free Will Baptist church for many years. He gave of his time in the community by delivering Meals on Wheels with the senior citizens group. He could fix anything and his beautifully groomed yard landed him the Yard of the Month many times which was always the talk of the neighborhood. Junius loved the outdoors and especially fishing. He was employed at the Macke company for many years.
J. L. is a veteran and served steadfast in the military US Air Force (1948-1952) in Texas, Japan, and Korea.
Mr. Horne was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delano Stewart Horne, (wife of 69 years), Danny R. Atkins (Son-in-law), Laurie C. Horne (daughter-in-law), Junius and Clara Horne (parents), Weldon Horne, Hardie Horne, Fulton Horne (brothers), Louise Williams, Peggy Jones, Jenny Ruth Johnston, Karen Horne Lamm (sisters).
Junius is survived by Pamela H. Atkins (daughter), Dennis L. Horne/Kerry (son and daughter-in-law), Roger D. (Henry) Horne/Lisa (son and daughter-in-law), Donnie S. Horne/Linda (son and daughter-in-law), Ronnie Horne (brother), and Jeanette H. Warren (sister). He was also survived by his eight grandchildren, Michael Stokes (Karen), Erin Stokes, Joel Horne (Christina), Jonathan Horne (Melissa), Lauren Kimbrell (Stephen), Joshua Horne (Julianna), Andrew Horne (Stephanie), Katelyn Stocks (Taylor). J. L. is survived by three bonus grandchildren Caleb Welch (Amanda), Noah Welch (Jordan), Autumn Davis (Hunter), as well as eighteen great grandchildren Simon, Elijah, Callie, Gideon Horne, Asa, Elise, Isla, Opal Horne, Lily Kate, Ainsley, Carter Kimbrell, Jocelyn, Liam, Lila Horne, Stella Jane Horne, Jane, Finnley, Tanner Stocks. Four bonus great grandchildren Isaiah, Oliver Welch, Miles Welch, Samuel, Evie Davis. He will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews, beloved friends, and his church family.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 3, 2025, at 1:00 at Prospect FWB Church located at 873 Prospect Church Road in Dunn, NC. Funeral service follows at 2:00 pm, with a committal service after at Erwin Memorial Park, South 18th Street in Erwin, NC. Rev. Dennis L. Horne will be officiating, assisted by Rev. Brian Cameron.
