Joyce Fay (Stone) Godwin

Joyce Fay Stone Godwin, age 87, of Coats, passed away on Friday evening, March 6, 2026.  She was born on October 4, 1938 in Harnett County to her parents, the late Herman and Dolly Nordan Stone.  She is also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “C.J.” Godwin.

She is survived by her children: sons, Michael “Mike” Godwin (Patricia) of Coats, and Randy Godwin of Coats.  Granddaughters, Amanda Keefer (Russ), and Kayla Creech (Jason); great grandchildren: Savannah Keefer, Elizabeth Keefer, Adalade Creech, Amelia Creech, and Ivan Creech; sisters, Louise Williams, and Ann Gregory, and brother, Dick Stone.

Sometime after high school, Joyce married Clifford “C.J.” Godwin; two sons completed their family and they lived in Dunn.  They had a special, unique relationship.

Over the years, Joyce worked in various professions including the shirt factory in Dunn, Dorothea Dix Hospital in the Canteen in Raleigh, and later as a CNA, finally retiring from the Carrolton Nursing Center of Dunn.

In younger years, Joyce and C.J. had a trailer at Carolina Beach that she enjoyed, always getting golden summer suntan.  She frequently traveled to Florida to visit with her sister, Ann, often visiting Disneyworld.

Joyce loved her family very much.  She also loved to entertain and have folks over.  Always with a big smile, she enjoyed cooking a large spread of food for a large fellowship meal and she wanted you to take some food home.  Her dream was to one day open a soup kitchen to help feed others less fortunate.  She was a loving, kind, giving soul who loved the Lord and was always trying to help others.  One example is her sons friend when they were growing up.  She attended Fairhaven Church of God in Benson. 

She was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the Dunn Funeral Home of Erwin located at 904 Lucas Street in Erwin, NC.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm, with Funeral at 1:00 pm.  Burial follows at Coats City Cemetery in Coats, NC at 222 S. McKinley Street.
