Johnny was a lifelong member of the Dunn-Erwin community. He graduated from Erwin High School in 1974 before attending Johnston Technical Institute, studying electronics and small business management. He received the Eagle Scout Award from Troop 84 in Erwin. Professionally, he worked with Pope Distribution Co. for 25 years, Eastern Décor of Sanford, NC, for 15 years, and retired with Bemco Sleep Products after almost 15 years of service.
In his early years, he coached Tee-Ball, basketball, and Little League Baseball with Erwin Parks and Rec.
Johnny was a member of Glad Tidings Church, where he previously served on the Church Board, and the Ushers and Greetings Committees.
He loved his University of North Carolina Tar Heels almost as much as he loved his family. He enjoyed sharing so many fun times and memories with them, pulling pranks as often as he could. His wife, Sylvia, was the love of his life. They were married for 33 years.
He served as Vice President and President of the Dunn Lions Club and, for nearly the last 10 years served with West & Dunn as a funeral assistant.
Preceding him in death are his Grandparents, Alex, and Olma Odom; and parents; Joseph & Lola Odom; sister; Vilarae Odom Lee; a brother; Joe (Butchie) Odom; Very Special Mother-in-Law; Sarah “Nonnie” Howard
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sylvia Odom; daughters: Kimberly Williams (Brian); Tara Jasper; Christal Adkins (Chris); son: Brian DePinto-Fowler (Lisa) grandchildren; Natalie Adkins, Mason Williams, Luke Adkins, Hunter Jasper, and Melody Adkins, nieces; Wendy Lee Pope, Amy Lee Colville, Meredith Odom Ness and nephew, Robertson Odom
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Glad Tidings Church in Dunn, officiated by Pastor Tim Rice. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church. Interment to follow at Erwin Memorial Park of Erwin.
All attendees please proudly wear UNC Tarheel colors or Scout-related apparel.
