Jesse "Butch" Frank Morris

Jesse “Butch” Morris passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Carrolton of Dunn. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at West and Dunn Funeral Home Chapel of Erwin, NC beginning at 5:00 pm. Dr. Johnny Sexton will be officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 3:30 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.

Butch is survived by his son, Adam Morris of Roanoke Rapids, sister, Katrina McCourt of Elm City, brothers, Arthur “Art” Morris of Texas and Tim Morris of Erwin, and nephews Timothy Morris Jr. and Keegan McCourt, and niece, Amanda Murray and husband Brady. Butch is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Eloise Morris.

Jesse or “Butch” loved to do the grilling at gatherings for family or friends.   He was an avid ECU fan, having graduated there in 1994 with a degree in finance; loved going fishing, especially catfishing on the river with his son Adam; he enjoyed playing cards or board games with family—and excelled at cheating at both.  He enjoyed a good laugh.  Butch was the kind of guy you would call at 2 am if your car was in a ditch if you wanted someone to keep you company on a long ride, or help move furniture.   All who knew him will miss his kind and generous heart. 

Butch attended church at the Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Coats.  He was also a member of the Neill S. Stewart Masonic Lodge #556 where he was Mason of the Year in 2012. 

When Butch entered the final leg of his earthy existence he did so with a quiet resolve, never once complaining.  Butch was legitimately moved by the outpouring of love and support we all received through calls and social media posts.

“Make sure you thank them for me.  Thank EVERY single person”.  Our final promise to him.  Thanks to each of you.
