Ms. Janet Hawley Allen, age 70 of Dunn, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. She was born February 3, 1954 in Warner Robins, GA to William Basil Hawley and the late Wilma Inez Hawley.
Janet’s life focused on her faith, family and community. Raised in an Air Force household during her early childhood, she graduated from Pine Forest High School in 1972 where she served as an active member and Secretary-Treasurer of the Photography Club. Her passion for people and helping others led her to an early career in cosmetology and later in the hospitality sector including food service and facilities management at Campbell University for more than 20 years.
Her sweet personality and beaming smile lit up every room and made friendships easily throughout her life. As a devoted daughter, she lived much of her life very close to her parents. As a dedicated mother, she raised and cherished her son, Robert. As a loving sister and doting aunt, she demonstrated the importance of family connections and compassion in so many ways. Janet’s strong work ethic mirrored the experience of her father to plan ahead and always undertake every task with diligence and care.
Janet is preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Inez Hawley. Those left to cherish her memory include her father, William Basil Hawley, son, Robert Allen, sister Gail H. Dixon and husband Jay Dixon, brothers, Andy L. Hawley and David Hawley and wife Judy Hawley; also three nieces, two nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Janet was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 in the chapel of Dunn Funeral Home (904 Lucas Street, Erwin, NC 28339) followed by a graveside service at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery (290 Red Hill Church Road in Dunn, NC). The family will receive friends prior to the service between 10:00-11:00 AM.
