James Sherwood West

James Sherwood West, 85, of Dunn (formerly of Erwin) passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, at
home following a period of declining health. He was born February 7, 1938, to the late James Dalton
West and Mattie Mae West. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Gene
West.

Sherwood was a dedicated member of Erwin Methodist Church for more than thirty years, serving as a
Sunday School teacher, Trustee, and a member of his beloved Chancel Choir. He was a Freemason
member of the Neill S. Stewart Lodge Number 556 where he was recently honored for sixty years of
service.

He is survived by his wife Judy; two sons, Allen West and Toby West, wife Cindy; daughter Shelly
Gospodarek, husband Dan; two granddaughters, Alli West and Avery Gospodarek; three step
granddaughters, Amanda Tyndall, Heather West, and Parrish Carter, husband Ryan; three step great
grandchildren, Carter, Leland and Amelia Tyndall.

A private graveside service will be held Thursday, November 30th. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to
Erwin Methodist Church, 600 Denim Drive, NC 28339 or Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600
College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
