Mr. James Carl Massey, 78, of Stricklands Crossroads, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the State Employees Credit Union Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 23, 1945 in Johnston County to the late Needham and Mavis Wood Massey. James was a hardworking man who had a great sense of humor and knew how to make people laugh.
He worked as a mechanic for 34 years at Chicopee in Benson. He also worked at the Johnston County Landfill and sold cars and loved fixing them. Mr. James retired as a Lieutenant firefighter and Honor Guard member at Strickland Crossroads Fire Department.
His funeral service will be Monday, November 18, 2024 beginning at 2 p.m. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home from 1 till 2 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral service at Hood's Grove Baptist Church, Newton Grove. The family will be receiving friends at the home after the completion of the graveside. 254 Strickland Crossroads Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
Mr. James is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ila Ruth Lee Massey; grandson, Seth Thomas Leon Munday; a sister, Ruth-Elaine Massey; and brother, Linwood Massey.
He is survived and loved by: daughters, Cynthia Massey Munday of Wilsons Mills and Wanda Massey of Four Oaks; son, James Massey, Jr. (Kayla) of Four Oaks; sisters, Dianne Barnes (Donnie) of Four Oaks, Linda Wells of Four Oaks and Peggy Massey of Four Oaks;
grandchildren, Priscilla Johnson (Daniel), Cassie McDonald (Colton), Summer Stephenson, Eric Stephenson (Brianna) and Elijah Massey, and Crystal Barefoot (John).
He is also loved by numerous great grand babies and many nieces and nephews.
James enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially to the mountains. He also loved taking care of his kittens, tractors, and classic cars especially from the 50’s. Riding his lawnmower was one of his favorite things to do. He also loved him some Dolly Parton and enjoyed participating in many auctions.
But most of all, he loved his family and he will be greatly missed.
