Jack Melvin Rose, 85, of Four Oaks, NC passed away at his home on July 8, 2022. He is remembered as a family man, a pillar of the community and a man of God.
The funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 16th at 12:00 p.m. at Mill Creek Christian Church. The service will follow with a graveside inurnment. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m.
Jack is survived by his son, David S. Rose of Lillington, NC. His sister, Margie L. Rose of Fayetteville, NC. His daughter-in-law, Renee C. Rose of Buies Creek, NC. His granddaughter, Susan L. Rose of Ellerbe, NC. He also leaves behind numerous amounts of nieces and nephews, church family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis A. Rose and Vara L. Thornton Rose; siblings Seth Rose, Bill Rose, Joe Rose and Iris Honeycutt; and son James M. Rose of Buies Creek, NC. The love of his life of 24 years, Joan C. Coker also passed in 2003.
Jack was a man of many talents; he could spend hours telling stories and teaching anyone to do anything. He served honorably in the US Army as a PFC from 1956 to 1958; he thereafter joined the Army Reserves from 1958 to 1962, earning an honorable discharge. One of the most memorable things about Jack was his love for history, specifically civil war history. He worked for the state of NC as a Historic Site Manager for the Cultural Research – Architecture and History at Bentonville Battlefield in Four Oaks, NC. He maintained this position for 27 years. Jack was also a deacon at Mill Creek Christian Church; he devoted countless hours to maintaining the location and serving its members. He spent a lot of time gardening after his retirement; he never let anyone leave his home without some type of fruit, vegetable or even homemade wine in tow. He was, like most of the Rose family, an enjoyer of all things outdoors, community and family oriented, devoted to his friends and a teacher to those who wished to learn. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.
