Graham Stewart Obituary

Graham Stewart, 90 of Erwin, passed away at Betsy Johnson Hospital on Thursday, March 26, 2020. Mr. Stewart will have a private family funeral at Erwin United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Don Mitchell on Sunday, March 29, 2020. Interment will follow at Erwin Memorial Park of Erwin, NC.  

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Della Jackson Stewart of 62 years, son, Gray Stewart and wife Jan of Cary, grandchildren, Mason Stewart and Morgan Stewart, nieces, Marsha Ingalls, Ann Hancock, Trisha Westbrook, Edie Wood and Karen Burns, nephews, Bobby McLamb and Donald McLamb. 

Mr. Stewart is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Earl Stewart and Millie Stewart, step-mother, Mary McDonald Stewart, brother, Earl Stewart, Jr., Ralph Stewart, and Roger Stewart, sister, Blanche McLean, and step-sister, Lucy McDonald Emery.

Graham was a proud UNC Chapel Hill graduate earning his Master’s degree in education. Graham was a former principal and educator and later a Director of Training at Erwin Mills for nearly 40 years. Graham was also Chairman of the Erwin Parks and Recreation. Graham also served as Chairman of the Board at Erwin United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher. As a member of the Lion’s Club for 60 years, Graham received the Lifetime Member Achievement award. Other accolades Graham has received are the Melvin Jones Fellowship award given by the Lion’s Club and Erwin Man of the Year award in the 1980’s.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Erwin United Methodist Church at 600 Denim Drive, Erwin, NC 28339 or to the Lion’s Club of Erwin at 100 West F Street, Erwin, NC 28339.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date for family and friends. The date and time will be announced.
