Gene Durwood McLeod

Gene Durwood McLeod, 93, of Erwin passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn. 

He was born on November 10, 1931 in Harnett County to the late Fred and Louise P. McLeod. 

He worked at Erwin Mills for 42 years, and then spent 18 years serving the community with compassion as a funeral assistant for Price Funeral Home in Erwin. 

Durwood was married to the love of his life Rozena Powers McLeod on June 17, 1949 until her passing on March 17, 2012.

Prospect Free Will Baptist Church was a significant part of his life. He was a faithful member for 56 years, and served many years as the Choir Director. 

Durwood enjoyed spending time sitting on his porch, just taking in the beauty of nature and God’s creations. He was also a huge fan of wrestling, and his loved ones knew to let him be during those scheduled times of entertainment. He also loved listening to southern gospel music.

Durwood is survived and loved by his son, Terry McLeod of Tennessee; his daughter, LouAnne Barbour of Erwin; and brother, Charles McLeod.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Dunn Funeral Home of Erwin.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Prospect FWB Church.

Mr. Durwood will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
