Frances D. (Dalton) Johnson

Frances Dalton Johnson, 96, of Erwin, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2024, at Pinecrest Gardens of Lillington.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and “Lizzie” Capps Dalton; infant baby brother; her husband, E. C. Johnson, Jr.; son, Stephen E. Johnson, Sr.; and grandson, Stephen E. Johnson, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Ernie C. Johnson, III (Brenda); a daughter, Kathy Thornton (Stanley); dauughter-in-law Judy Johnson; grandchildren, Chris Johnson (Michelle), Tonya Johnson Young, Craig Johnson (Beth), and Tosha Ward; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frances was born June 12, 1928 in Harnett County (Bunnlevel) and graduated from Erwin High School.  After her husband returned from the military, they settled in Erwin and she worked at Erwin Mills for 30 years.  After her retirement, she continued to stay busy by cooking at an open-air market in Erwin.  She loved to cook, especially for her family.  She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, traveling, and reading.  Her favorite foods were chocolate and shrimp and in past years often enjoyed fried popcorn shrimp at Hudson Bay restaurant in Fayetteville.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 2:00pm at the Dunn Funeral Home Chapel of Erwin.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service at 1:00 pm.  Burial will be in Erwin Memorial Park immediately after the service.

Pallbearers will be Chris Johnson, Craig Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Hunter Young, Todd Whittenton, and Travis Hamilton.

The family of Frances Johnson would especially like to thank the staff of Pinecrest Gardens of Lillington and Gentiva Hospice of Lillington for their loving care of Frances.
