Edith "Snowdean" Barefoot Obituary

Edith “Snowdean” Tart Barefoot, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 21, 2022.

Born on November 1, 1934, Snowdean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the Lord and lived her life giving glory to Him.  She married Carlton Barefoot in 1954. Being the love of his life for 68 years, they have depended on each other greatly  and have been the perfect role models for others. She was a supportive wife for over two years as Carlton has struggled  with dementia.  Later in life, Snowdean received a BA from Mt. Olive College and a BS in Education from Fayetteville State University.  She taught English at Midway High School, 4 th Grade at Hargrove Elementary, and retired in 2000 after teaching Social Studies at Hobbton Middle School.  Playing Bridge was a favorite hobby of Snowdean’s until her vision would not allow her to play. She also enjoyed spending time with her Red Hat Society members, and enjoyed playing the stock market. Her family has many fond memories of camping at White Lake, boat riding, swimming, and even skiing which brought happiness to Snowdean and her family.  Snowdean will be remembered for always having strong ties with her immediate family as well as her extended family.  She loved her nieces, nephews, and cousins and looked forward to family reunions every year where she could socialize and reminisce.

Snowdean was preceded in death by her mother and father, Joe and Edith Tart, her son Carlton “Carl” Brooks Barefoot Jr., and her granddaughter Ashlyn Dori Barefoot. Remaining to cherish her memories are her husband Carlton Barefoot, her son Jimmy Barefoot and wife Sheila, daughter Karen Sinclair and husband Dewain, grandchildren Brooks Barefoot, Justin Sinclair and wife Jessica, Reid Sinclair and wife Haley, Tyler Sinclair and wife Carlie, and Kaylan Dudley and husband Lucas, step-grandchildren Chris Wallace, Derek Wallace, Jenna Rogers and husband Caleb, great-grandchildren Paul Sinclair, Molly Sinclair, Reagan Sinclair, Gray Sinclair, Julia Dudley, Macie Sinclair, and step-great-grandchild Levi Rogers.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 12:00 until 1:30 PM at St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church, Newton Grove, NC. Service to celebrate Snowdean’s life will follow at the church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Freddie Gooding officiating. Following the funeral, Snowdean will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove, NC.  Memorials may be made to St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 64, Newton Grove, NC 28366. Her wish was for memorials to benefit the youth ministry.

Mama, go rest now for you have fought the battle and have done all that you can do here on this earth. You have served your Lord well and been the best Mama, grandmama, and wife anyone could ask for. We love you and will miss you so much!
Love Carlton, Jimmy, and Karen
