Doris Alene (Giddens) Jennings

Doris Giddens Jennings, 81, of Raleigh, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on January 3, 2023, with her daughters, Suzzette and Julie, by her side.

Doris was born on January 7, 1941, to Dave and Florence Giddens of Newton Grove, North Carolina. After graduating from Hobbton High School, Doris attended Atlantic Christian College. She began her professional career with Carolina Power and Light, then ran a successful Kirby Vacuum Distributorship with her former husband, John Jennings III, in Charlotte, North Carolina. These experiences laid the foundation for her work with the Federal Government as a Legal Assistant with the Office of Hearings and Appeals, where Doris retired after forty-plus years of service. 

Doris’ most joy filled times were spent with her daughters, Suzzette and Julie, their husbands, and her eight grandchildren, who shared a mutual adoration for Grandma Jennings.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Florence Giddens, and her brother Mac Giddens, all of Newton Grove. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Suzzette and W. Chris Acree of Raleigh, North Carolina, their children, Leighton, husband Logan, son Warren Caldwell of Norfolk, Virginia, John Acree of Knoxville, Tennessee, Christian Acree, of Raleigh, and daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Troy Jensen, their children, Jack, Parker, Hill, Lane, and Emma, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her brother and sister in law, Bill and Sylvia Giddens of Newton Grove, North Carolina, and many special nieces and nephews. 

On January 7, 2023 at 2:00 pm, a celebration of Life Service will be held at Pleasant Union Christian Church at 1920 Mount Olive Highway, Newton Grove, NC 28366, with a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery, Highway 701, to follow.
