Mr. David Lacey Edwards, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor on Saturday, January 20th at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:30 p.m., followed by the service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will take place at the Edwards Family Cemetery on Selah Church Road.
Born in Grantham, David was raised to be a fine southern gentleman by his parents David and Katie Mae. He proudly served in Vietnam with the US Army as a helicopter mechanic and later went on to work in textiles.
David was a quiet and gentle soul who enjoyed sharing his passion for animals, especially cats, reading, gardening, rock-hounding, woodworking, painting, and beautiful pottery with his family and friends. David was a life-long learner who was always studying or taking classes to hone his skills in pottery and clay, HVAC, diesel mechanics, small engine repair and computer technology.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Ruth Evelyn; daughter Angela Parrish (John) of Trinity, stepdaughters Glenda Westbrook (Kirk) of Newton Grove and Gail Campbell (Scott) of Virginia Beach; siblings Roland 'Poley' Edwards (Celia) of Four Oaks and Debra Honeycutt of Beaufort; step-grandchildren Cullen, Rileigh, Kristin; and step-great grandson Linkin.
The family wishes to send a heartfelt thanks to many kind and gracious relatives and neighbors who helped care for him during his courageous battle with Parkinsons.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Anthony 'Tony' Edwards, and nephew Kenneth Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made in his honor to the American Legion, or the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
