Brenda Warren Obituary

Brenda Sue Warren was born on March 14, 1952, in Dunn, North Carolina and passed away on February 26, 2026, in Kinston, North Carolina.  Brenda Sue, or “Miss Hollywood” as she was called by her beloved Uncle Carl, was a vibrant, thoughtful, compassionate, and up-for-anything blessing to her family, friends, and community.

Her favorite hobbies were shopping, shopping, and shopping!  She used her artistic and creative talents to spread sunshine by crafting, sending cards, reading to and performing puppet shows for other residents at Caswell Developmental Center (Caswell) and participating in various activities in the community.

A member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Brenda loved her Lord and attended church wherever and whenever she could.  She especially treasured helping teach Sunday School at Pleasant Union Christian Church with her lifelong friend, Susan Williford, when she was able.  Brenda’s life was filled with many cherished friends and caregivers, and she never met a stranger.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents William Blake “Bill” Warren, Sr. and Mary Sue Warren as well as brother John Bennett Warren of Newton Grove.

She is survived by Cathy Mason, sister; Blake and Donna Warren, brother and sister-in-law; and Caroline Warren, sister.  Special “grandchildren” include Hardee Merritt (Rachel), Amanda Gullie (Andrew), April Dudley (Nathan), Thomas Merritt (Christina), Pamela Lewis, and William Warren (Heather).  She is also survived by her 12 “great-grandchildren.”

Thank you to Brenda’s Caswell family for the love, care, and support they showed her and us throughout the years.  Thank you to the Critical Care medical team at UNC-Lenoir Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Caswell Center Foundation may be made in Brenda Sue’s memory.  The Foundation enhances the quality of life for persons at Caswell Developmental Center and in eastern North Carolina with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
