Brenda Lou Matthews Spence went to her Heavenly home in the early morning hours of January 27, 2026. She was born on February 26, 1947 to Ann and Paul Matthews of Cary, NC. She was an only child but grew up surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her daughters Kim Ives of Tarboro, her daughter Jan Shields of Siler City, her stepson John, of Forney, Texas and a myriad of grandchildren.
Brenda loved music. She played the piano and sang like an angel. She had a vibrant and bubbly personality that could charm most anyone she met. Although she had not been in good health for a while, she is resting peacefully in the arms of her parents, her husband John, and her son Matt, who all preceded her in death.
Special thanks to Mary Gran Nursing Center of Clinton for her care during the last part of her life.
No formal service will be held. If your heart is led to honor Brenda, please make donations to The American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
