Born August 22nd, 1948, the day the music died for Brenda Gail Norris Creech was ten days shy of her 77th birthday, on August 12th, 2025. She will "do as she says she will" at her celebration on Friday, August 22nd, 2025. Dunn Funeral Home in Erwin, NC, will host her farewell with visitation at 1:00 pm, and funeral at 1:30 pm, followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery of Dunn. Pastor Jonathan Cook will officiate.
As a Harnett County native, Brenda, the legend is preceded in death by her mother and father, Retha Pearl Barefoot and Wilburn Norris, as well as her three children, Latisha, Darla, and Corley Shay Creech. So she has a very busy reunion and will fit us in this Friday to reminisce.
To cherish her memories, she leaves behind a devoted husband, Gerald Creech, and three children, daughter, Jerri Gail Griffin and husband Timothy Griffin, daughter, Della Creech, and son, Errol Creech, as well as three wildling grandchildren; Christopher Scott Tew-Creech, Carter Bear Griffin, and Grayson Wolf Griffin, who embody every bit of her spunk. Others include her eight loving Norris siblings, six in life: brothers, Roy Norris, Charles Ray Norris, and Devon Norris and sisters, Edna Rice, Florence “Tenie” Coats, and Joyce Martinez; and also two proceeding her, brothers, David Norris, and Delmas Norris.
Being self-made was never a question as Brenda challenged tradition as an elite welder across the US, a favorite beachside restaurant owner, and even taking on governments to widen bridges and ensure safety measures for our community's children. She was a woman of many interests and jobs over the years. She had a heart for the homeless and those struggling.
As a unique trailblazer, she was a one-of-a-kind woman; unapologetic, stylish, spontaneous, fierce, compassionate, unorthodox, and creative. Senators and lawyers alike, knew her name.
Brenda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
We hope you continue the dance, Silly Granny, no Parkinson's included.
