Betty Jane Hair Gainey, age 84, of Linden, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at her home. Born on September 21, 1940, Betty was raised by the late Dan and Bessie H. Haire of Linden where she spent her life dedicated to her family, community, and her faith.
Ms. Gainey was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Pee Wee” Barkley Gainey.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Betty Ann Gainey of Rogersville, TN, and William “Eddie” Gainey, Sr. of Sanford, NC. She was the proud grandmother of Rosanna Denise Gainey, William Edward Gainey, Jr. and Deanna Collier; also great-grandmother to Destiny, Ryan, Racheal, and Silas and great-great-grandmother to Andrew, River, and Remedy.
A talented upholsterer and seamstress, Betty worked from her home in Linden, sharing her skill and craftsmanship with many in the community. Her home was always open, offering warmth, love and delicious meals to all who entered. Betty’s kitchen was a place of comfort where family and friends gathered, and her generosity extended far beyond her own family.
She was an active member of Hair’s Chapel Church in Linden, NC where she found joy and solace in her church family. Her faith was a central part of her life, and she devoted her time to helping others, always striving to make her community a better place through volunteering.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to special caregivers Diane Jackson, Lisa Smith, Pete Haire, and Linda Rowell for making Betty’s remaining days full of love and comfort.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Hair’s Chapel Church in Linden, NC followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Pastor Joan Jackson officiating.
