Norman C. Denning Sr., 94, of Harper House Road, Four Oaks, passed away Thursday, June 14th at SECU Hospice House. Mr. Dennings funeral service will be held Monday, June 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John Pentecostal Holiness Church, Four Oaks, N.C. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jim Skinner. He will be laid to rest in the Lee Family Cemetery, Harper House Road, Four Oaks. The family will receive friends and family 1 hour prior to the funeral service from 10 till 11 a.m.
Mr. Dennings survivors include his daughters, Phyllis D. Godwin and husband Rodney, Raleigh, NC, Mary Jane Denning Carroll, Four Oaks, NC, his son, Norman C. Denning, Jr. and wife Sherry of Four Oaks. Grandchildren, Clint Ferrell, Sr., Paige Carroll, Brittany Denning and Norman "Trey" Denning, III. Great grandchildren, Clint Ferrell, Jr. Claire Ferrell and Olivia Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Mary T. Denning and his wife Jean R. Denning.
He was a member of Saint John Pentecostal Holiness Church. Some of his public service and awards for service were Johnston County Commissioner for 36 years with 26 of those years as chairman, Fire Commissioner for 36 years, Health Board for 26 years with 20 of those being Chairman, Order of the Long Leaf Pine, "Living Legend" by the Heritage Center, N.C. Livestock Hall of Fame, N.C. Pork Producers Hall of Fame, President of the N.C. Purebred Breeders Association, "Distinguished Citizen" aware by the Boy Scouts of America, appointed to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission by Gov. Bob Scott, and was privileged to have the Johnston County Livestock Endowment Scholarship Fund renamed in his and his wife's honor.
He took great pride and love in his Lord, family, community, county and all agricultural endeavors.
