Lambert Morris Sutton

Rocky Mount – Mr. Lambert M, Sutton, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 5th, surrounded by his family.  A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Newton Grove United Methodist Church, 133 S. Church Street, Newton Grove, NC. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery in Dudley, NC.

Lambert was born in Suttontown, NC, the son of Granger and Mildred Sutton.  He graduated valedictorian from Piney Grove High School and then received a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from N.C. State University.  Following his graduation, he served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.  After a long career in the grocery merchandising business, he retired to pursue his passion of antiquing.  His best days, however, were simply spent sharing time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara Tate Sutton.

He is survived by his sons, Stephen Sutton of Richmond, VA. and Rahn Sutton and wife Wanda of Raleigh, NC.  He also leaves behind three grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Kyleigh, Gray and Reid.  He is also survived by his two loving sisters and brother-in-law, Peggy Brewer of Faison, NC, and Brenda Warren and husband Gerald of Newton Grove; and many nieces and nephews that loved spending time with Uncle Lambert.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:45 p.m. on Saturday in the Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home of Gerald and Brenda Warren, 80 Creekside Drive, Newton Grove, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Lambert’s memory to Lakeside Baptist Church, 1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, or to a favorite charity of one’s choice in his memory.
