Dorothy Grey (Sessoms) Gant

Ms. Dorothy Gant, of Moncks Corner, S.C. formerly of Durham, N.C. passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 surrounded by loved ones just 2 days before her 92nd birthday. Ms. Gant's graveside service will be Sunday, July 15th at 2 P.M. at Hillcrest Cemetery, Newton Grove. Officiating the service will be Rev. Corky Herring. No formal visitation will be held. 

Dorothy Grey Sessoms Gant was born July 9, 1926 in Sampson County. She was the first of two children born to Henry Alvin and Ada House Sessoms. Her brother, Henry Curtis Sessoms died in his early twenties. Shorty after high school graduation she moved to Durham where she eventually met and married her husband of 50 years, James Olive Gant. Dorothy gave birth to two daughters, Hannah Grey Gant Soto and Ada Marie Gant Andrews. She also has a grandson, Jessie James Andrews.

She lived the majority of her life in Durham where she ran a day care center for 40 years, affectionately known as Momma Dot. 

After the death of Mr. Gant, she continued living in Durham, often traveling between Atlantic Beach (she loved fishing) adn Charleston (she loved shopping) to visit her daughters and to Newton Grove visiting cousins and attending Sunday services. She was a life long member of Oak Grove OFWB Church.
