Clayton S Murphy

Faison- Clayton Sherwood Murphy, 81, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at UNC Rex Hospital.

His funeral service will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11:00 at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove, North Carolina, officiated by the Rev. Stanley King. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery,

Clayton, born in Sampson County was the son of the late Harvey and Ruth Murphy and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty his parents, Harvey Clayton and Ruth King Murphy and siblings: Harvey Charles Murphy and Carolyn M. Harwell. He was a lifelong member of the Skeeter Point community, farming alongside his father and then transitioning to Carroll’s Food Inc. in his later years. He continued to love gardening after retirement and could be found outside most days. He was the most devout husband and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. 

He is survived by his children, Joy and Kenn Thornton of Newton Grove and Jeffrey Murphy of Clinton; grandchildren, Georgia and Matthew Perry of Washington and Rachel and Bobby Iannuzzelli of Middlesex. Great grandson, Brycen Perry. Siblings, Shirley M. Lee of Franklin, VA, Jeanette M. Baker of Newton Grove, Hetty M Whitfield of Mt. Olive, Joyce M. Newcomb of Dudley, Margaret M. Nelms and husband Grover of Rocky Mount, Lynn M. Weeks of Faison, and Ann M Crawford and husband Murray of Faison and many loved nieces and nephews.
